For a ball bearing, the designation "6204RS" can be broken down to understand its features: • 6: This first digit indicates the type of bearing. "6" means it is a single-row deep groove ball bearing, which is the most common type. • 2: This digit indicates the series of dimensions (or robustness series). Each digit corresponds to a specific combination of outside diameter and width relative to the bore diameter. The "2" series corresponds to a "light" series. • 04: The last two digits of the basic designation indicate the bore diameter (inner diameter) of the bearing. For diameters over 17 mm, you multiply this number by 5. So, 04 x 5 = 20 mm. • RS: This suffix indicates the type of sealing. RS (or RS1) means there is a rubber seal (synthetic rubber, typically NBR) on one side of the bearing. This seal rubs against the inner ring to prevent dust and moisture from entering while retaining grease inside.
