Our selection of Short-Sleeved Shirts brings together the light shirts of summer: linen and cotton shirts, with Cuban or classic collars, plain or patterned, oxford and chambray, to be worn buttoned up or open over a t-shirt, along with our tips on fit and fabric.
The shirt for sunny days.
The short-sleeved shirt is the shirt for nice days: cooler than a long-sleeved shirt, smarter than a t-shirt. It can be worn on holiday, on the terrace, at the office when the dress code allows, or open over a white t-shirt like a light overshirt. Long considered out of style, it has made a comeback thanks to printed shirts and straighter, looser cuts.
Shirts and polos also come in:
All tops are gathered on the shirts and polos page.
The cuban collar, or camp collar, flat and open, with no collar stand, is the signature of the holiday shirt: it is always worn open and allows the neck to breathe. The Hawaiian shirt, with floral and palm prints, and the bowling shirt, with contrasting colour stripes, are its best-known variations. The classic collar shirt, plain or with small patterns, remains more understated and can be tucked into chinos. The straight cut, with a flat bottom, is designed to be worn untucked.
Linen, very cool and naturally creased, is the king of summer materials. Lightweight cotton, in poplin or seersucker, is easy to care for. The oxford, thicker and textured, and chambray, light like summer denim, bring a relaxed look. The sleeves should stop at mid-bicep, without flaring, and the untucked shirt should not go past the middle of the zipper. Linen is washed at thirty degrees and should be hung damp to limit creasing.
Good bargains can also be found in good deals, promotions, clearance, sales, Black Friday. New arrivals showcase the latest collections, and items shipped in 24h are prepared and sent within 24 hours. The highlights of the year follow a stable order: Black Friday at the end of autumn, the end-of-year holidays, winter sales, the French Days in spring, then summer sales and back-to-school.
A shirt with a straight hem, like the cuban collar model, is worn untucked. A shirt with rounded hems and a longer length is tucked into trousers, especially at the office.
The cuban collar is a flat, open collar, without a collar stand, that spreads across the shoulders. It gives a relaxed look to summer shirts, often printed, to be worn open over a t-shirt or buttoned up.
Linen is the coolest: it absorbs sweat and dries quickly but is prone to creasing. Lightweight cotton, in poplin or chambray, creases less and is better suited for the office.
A straight cut, neither too fitted nor too loose, with sleeves stopping halfway down the arm, balances the silhouette. Solid colours and small patterns flatter more than large prints.
It is suitable for a country wedding or in the height of summer if the dress code is casual. For a classic ceremony, opt for a long-sleeved shirt under a jacket.
