A complete outfit in one piece.
The jumpsuit has a birth date: June 19, 1920, when the Florentine newspaper La Nazione publishes the pattern for the TuTa, a one-piece garment conceived by the futuristic artist Thayaht. Designed as a universal outfit, easy to cut and frugal with fabric, it first appealed to the high society of Florence, contrary to its creator's utopia. The concept of a one-piece outfit then travels through the century, becoming a staple of women's wardrobes. Its advantage hasn't changed: the simplicity of a dress and the freedom of movement of trousers, a complete outfit that one can slip on in one motion.
Dresses and jumpsuits also come in various styles:
All the outfits are gathered on the dresses and jumpsuits page.
The fitted trouser jumpsuit at the waist, like the Only Scarlett, KAFFE Lona or b.young, is the easiest to wear daily. The palazzo version, with very wide legs, like the Rinascimento Diana, creates a fluid vertical line that elongates the figure. The COMMA V-neck and semi-wide leg style reveals the neck and shapes the bust, while the Artlove Sylena, sleeveless, is perfect for warm days. The Only Asta features a belt with a bracelet-like buckle to accentuate the waist, and the Desigual Hibrid and Lauren showcase the graphic prints of the Barcelona-based brand founded in 1984.
The delicate point of a jumpsuit is its bust length, from the shoulder to the crotch: too short, it pulls; too long, it bunches at the waist. So, try it on while sitting with arms raised. The fabric then makes all the difference: viscose and crepe fall softly for a dressed-up look, cotton and linen stay casual and breathe in summer, while knitted fabrics provide the comfort of relaxed wear. The Banana Moon Power Wellness, in stretchy material, suits gentle activities. A fine belt, whether integrated or added, defines the waist and transforms a straight cut into a fitted silhouette.

Choose a fluid cut in crepe, satin, or viscose, palazzo or wide-legged, in a soft colour or delicate print. A wrap neckline, backless, or thin straps make the outfit more formal than a day jumpsuit.
It is if you choose the right closure: a front button, accessible zip, or detachable straps make it easier to use the restroom. Models with elastic waistbands and wide necklines come off quicker than fitted cuts zipped at the back.
The long jumpsuit, with trouser legs, is suitable for both work and evenings and can be worn year-round. The short jumpsuit, being shorter, remains a summer and relaxed piece, perfect for holidays, the beach, or warm days in the city.
A straight or slightly flared cut, solid, elongates the silhouette, especially with a V-neck. Avoid legs that are too long which create folds at the bottom of the trousers: a trimmed hem or ankle-length prevents a stumpy effect.
Viscose doesn't like heat and friction: hand wash or delicate cycle at thirty degrees, gentle spin and hang to dry. Iron it inside out, at low temperature, to avoid shiny marks on the fabric.
