Good support starts with the right size.
A large number of women would wear an ill-fitting bra size. A size consists of two measurements: the band size, a number measured under the bust, and the cup, a letter that depends on the difference between the bust measurement and the band size. It's the band size, properly fitted, that provides most of the support, not the straps. A band that rides up at the back, cups that gap or overflow indicate a size that needs to be reconsidered.
Lingerie also comes in the following:
All lingerie is gathered on the lingerie page.
The underwired bra supports and shapes the bust thanks to a wire under the cups. The plunge style, like the Elomi Bazaruto and Freya Ibiza Waves, with its deep neckline, is worn under low-cut tops. The moulded or t-shirt bra, like the Fantasie Smoothing or the Freya Fascinate, with smooth cups, remains invisible under close-fitting clothing. The minimizer Wacoal visually reduces the volume of the bust. The non-wired option, like the Triumph Amourette, prioritizes comfort. The Fantasie Fusion with side support helps to center the bust.
Elomi specializes in voluptuous busts and larger sizes, with deep cups and wide straps; Freya and Fantasie also offer a wide range of cup sizes, with trendier or more classic styles. For sport, the Triumph Triaction limits bust movement during exercise. We wash our bras by hand or in a mesh bag, in cold water, dry them flat, never in a tumble dryer, and alternate between several models to preserve their elasticity.
Good deals can also be found in the bargains, promotions, clearance, sales, Black Friday. Measure the band size under the bust, keeping the tape flat, and then the bust measurement at the fullest part. The band size gives the size number, and the difference between the two measurements gives the cup letter.
Opt for a model with underwire, with multi-part covering cups, a wide band, and broader straps. Elomi, Freya, and Fantasie make their models in larger cup sizes.
An underwired bra with removable straps, worn as a bandeau, or a low-back model is suitable under a backless outfit. For a deep neckline, choose deep cups with a low center bridge.
The minimizer redistributes the volume of the bust to make it look more discreet while providing good support. It prevents shirts from gaping at the buttons. The Minimizer from Wacoal is an example.
A band that rides up at the back, cups that overflow or crease, a center bridge that doesn't touch the sternum, or straps that dig into the shoulders. The band is often too loose in these cases.
