Below are some tips for installing your camera trap in the field:

  • Install the device at about 1.5 m/2 m height, slightly angled downwards.
  • Install the device facing north or south. Do not point the device east or west as sunrise and sunset can cause false triggers and produce overexposed images.
  • To monitor a game trail, point the device along the trail rather than perpendicularly. This allows for multiple animals to be seen at the same time if they pass in a line.
  • Avoid placing the device on a frail tree that may move in high winds. Try to place the camera on a stable and fixed support.
  • Clear any branches or grass in front of the device. In high winds or temperatures, they might cause false triggers.
  • Check the battery status before setting up the device.
  • Make sure you have properly inserted the memory card.
  • Check that the date and time are correct.
  • Remember to switch the selector to "ON" before you leave.
