Warmth without the weight.
A padded jacket keeps you warm thanks to its insulation, which is enclosed in stitched compartments that give it a quilted look. This insulation traps air, an excellent insulator, which retains body heat. It can be made of natural down, very warm for its weight and compressible, or synthetic, which maintains its properties better in humidity and is easier to wash. The compartments prevent the insulation from sliding down.
Jackets and coats also come in:
All jackets can be found on the padded jackets and coats page.
Superdry, a British brand with Japanese inspirations, has made the padded jacket one of its iconic pieces: the Fuji, with a hood, and the Fuji Lite, lighter, can be recognized by their logo. The Everest, longer and warmer, faces the severe cold. JOTT, a French brand founded in Marseille, is known for its ultralight jackets, like the Cloe and Cha, which compress into a small bag, and the sleeveless Seda, perfect under a coat. The Guess Vona and 4G, featuring the brand's monogram, embrace fashion.
Length should be chosen based on use. The short padded jacket, or crop like the Guess Fatema with a belt, allows freedom of movement and pairs well with high-waisted jeans. The long padded jacket, like the Superdry Everest or the QS with a hood, also protects the thighs in severe cold. The sleeveless version can be layered over a sweater. For care, you should wash a down jacket at a low temperature with a suitable detergent, then dry it in a tumble dryer on a low heat with a few tennis balls, which help restore the down’s loft.
Great deals can also be found in good deals, promotions, clearance sales, sales, and Black Friday. The new arrivals showcase the latest collections, and items shipped within 24 hours are prepared and dispatched in 24 hours. The key events of the year follow a stable order: Black Friday at the end of autumn, the holiday season, the winter sales, the French Days in spring, then the summer sales and back-to-school season.
Down is warmer for its weight and compresses easily; synthetic insulation retains heat better in moisture and is simpler to wash. For a rainy climate and urban use, synthetic is a safe choice.
The long padded jacket covers the thighs and better protects against the cold when stationary, waiting for a bus or walking in the city. The short padded jacket, being lighter, allows more freedom and works well with high-waisted trousers.
Zip it up, turn it inside out, and wash it alone at thirty degrees on a delicate cycle with a special down detergent. Dry it in the tumble dryer at low temperature with two tennis balls, which help restore the loft of the insulation.
Take your usual size if wearing it over a thin sweater, and a size up for layering over a thick sweater. Lightweight padded jackets are designed to fit close to the body, whereas an oversized model, like those from Selfhood, is worn loose.
It keeps the torso warm while allowing free arms: you can layer it under a coat, over a shirt or a sweatshirt, in mid-season. The JOTT Seda sleeveless jacket can even fit into a bag when the sun comes back.
