This selection of summer t-shirts for women brings together basics in organic cotton Armedangels and Colorful Standard, thick piece-dyed jersey from Good On, oversized cuts Build Your Brand, V-necklines Guess and Vero Moda, and tank tops fransa and Athlecia. These are models from previous collections, sold at the end of the line, with the same quality of craftsmanship as the current pieces.
The summer basics, at end-of-line prices.
A t-shirt that lasts starts with its cotton. Armedangels, a brand founded in Cologne in 2007, cuts its t-shirts from GOTS certified organic cotton, grown without synthetic pesticides. Colorful Standard, a Copenhagen brand, also uses organic cotton and dyes each piece once sewn in Portugal: this process gives the Faded Black or Seaside Blue their washed-out look. Good On takes it a step further with heavy American cotton jersey, cut and dyed in Japan by pigmentation. The pigment remains on the surface of the fibre, so the colour develops a patina wash after wash, like workwear.

The crew neck remains the most versatile shape: the Guess Original, marked with the triangle logo of the brand founded in Los Angeles in 1981, can be worn alone or under a light jacket. The V-neck, like on the Vero Moda Vmgatja or the Guess Mini Triangle, exposes the neck and visually slims the torso. The oversized fit, offered by Build Your Brand and Colorful Standard, is recognised by its dropped shoulders and wide torso: it should be chosen in your usual size to maintain the desired loose effect from the design. Long-sleeve versions from Armedangels, like the Frankaa, extend the t-shirt season into cool evenings.
The weight, expressed in grams per square metre, says a lot about a t-shirt. Around one hundred and forty grams, the jersey is lightweight and fluid, comfortable in hot weather but a bit see-through in lighter shades. At around one hundred and eighty grams, as with the Classic t-shirt from Colorful Standard, the fabric becomes opaque and retains its shape after washes. Beyond two hundred and forty grams, we enter the family of thick t-shirts like Good On, which have an almost structured drape and can be worn as a main piece. The basic Stedman Classic, with intermediate weight, serves as a reliable everyday option.
The tank top frees the shoulders and arms, making it the coolest piece in a summer wardrobe. The Hizamond model from fransa, a Danish women’s wear brand, plays the soft cotton card for city wear. The Madilyn tank top from Athlecia, a Danish brand dedicated to women's sports, features technical fabric that dries quickly during a fitness session or a jog. For running or training in a t-shirt, technical models from Nike and Endurance, made from breathable synthetic fibres, wick away sweat better than regular cotton, which stays damp and can weigh down the top.
A V-neck or slightly scooped neckline elongates the torso and avoids the block effect of a crew neck. Opt for a fluid fabric that falls straight rather than a thin jersey that clings, and a fit that’s tailored at the waist.
Take your usual size: the extra width is already accounted for in the design. Going up a size accentuates the loose effect, but the sleeves will hang lower and the neckline may gape.
With pigment dyeing, the colour stays on the surface of the fibre and gradually fades, resulting in that sought-after vintage look. Wash it inside out and in cold water to slow this patina.
Wash it at thirty degrees, inside out, and avoid the tumble dryer, which is the main culprit for shrinkage. Flat or hanger drying preserves the length of the t-shirt and the shape of its neckline.
Choose a technical t-shirt made of polyester or polyamide, which wicks away sweat and dries within minutes. Cotton absorbs moisture, clings to the skin, and causes chafing on long outings.
