From high-tops to low-tops, every position has its pair.

At adidas, several stars have their own line. Anthony Edwards' A.E., launched in 2024, stands out with a sculpted upper and a wide sole that stabilises footing; the Mid version goes higher on the ankle. The Harden Volume, line of James Harden, supports a game based on changes of pace and step-back shots. Donovan Mitchell's D.O.N. Issue, an explosive guard, aims for lightness and responsiveness, and the Dame bears the signature of Damian Lillard, a guard renowned for his long-range shots.

At Puma, LaMelo Ball's MB line is recognised for its bold colours and graphic details; it comes in a low version and in kids’ sizes. The Scoot Zeros, designed with Scoot Henderson, focuses on the brand's Nitro cushioning, a nitrogen-infused foam. The Chinese brand Li Ning has been signing the Way of Wade line with Dwyane Wade since 2012, with the Wade Shadow being a more accessible version. At Nike, the LeBron NXXT Gen continues the long lineage of models dedicated to LeBron James, with a lighter silhouette than its predecessors.
The height of the upper is chosen based on the position and ankle condition. A high-top shoe wraps around the ankle and reassures big men, who jump and land in contact, as well as players with weak ankles. A low-top shoe, being lighter, allows for more mobility for guards and forwards; support then comes from the lacing and heel counter. The cushioning under the heel and forefoot protects knees and back from repeated impacts: the heavier the player, the more they benefit from a generous model. A private sale makes a high-end signature more accessible.
The rubber of the sole is not the same indoors and outdoors. On court, a soft rubber with chevron or spiral patterns grips the floor and allows for sharp stops. On the asphalt of a playground, this rubber wears out quickly: the EP versions of Nike have a harder and thicker sole, designed for outdoor use. Indoor shoes Joma, like the Buzzer or Lithium, simpler, are suitable for casual basketball and school sports. Keep your indoor pair clean, as dust accumulation under the sole causes slipping.
Stick to your usual size and try them on with thick basketball socks, leaving half a centimetre in front of the toes. The heel should stay locked during jumps: if it lifts, the pair is too big or poorly laced.
It’s a model designed with a player and sold under their name, tailored to their playing style. The line evolves regularly, each new version keeping the player’s name and changing the number.
For a child, choose a soft and light shoe with good grip, like the junior versions of the Puma MB. Measure the foot in centimetres and leave a small margin for growth, but not too much so that the foot doesn’t float.
Wipe the sole with a damp cloth after each session to restore its grip, then clean the upper with soapy water using a soft brush. Avoid the washing machine, which distorts the upper and de-laminates the sole.
Li Ning is a Chinese brand founded by former gymnast Li Ning, a triple gold medalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. It made a name for itself in basketball thanks to Dwyane Wade, who joined in 2012.
