The Rains page brings together rain jackets, parkas, and waterproof bags from the Danish brand, featuring a sleek design and understated colours. Pieces made from coated fabric, with welded seams, that keep you dry while cycling, walking, or on public transport, and that pair well with both office attire and a weekend wardrobe.

The waterproof jacket reimagined by Scandinavian design.

A brand born in the rain of Aarhus

Rains was founded in 2012 in a garage in Aarhus, Denmark, by Daniel Brix Hesselager, Philip Lotko, and Kenneth Davids. Daniel Brix and Philip Lotko met at the TEKO design school. Their idea: to reinterpret the traditional rubber coat in a minimalist style, with a matte fabric and sharp lines. The name of the brand refers to the Danish climate, known for its many rainy days each year.

From its headquarters in Aarhus, the brand has expanded its collection to a full range of jackets, bags, and waterproof accessories.

Coated fabric and welded seams: how water is stopped

The Rains jackets use a polyester fabric that is coated with polyurethane, creating a continuous barrier against water and giving that characteristic matte feel. Welded seams replace stitched seams, which would allow rain to seep through with needle holes. Protected zips and adjustable hoods complete the waterproofing of the more exposed models.

This coated fabric is closer to a raincoat than jackets with breathable membranes: perfect for urban commutes in the downpour, it can be opened as effort intensifies, allowing steam to escape.

Backpacks, travel bags, and satchels

The Rains bags use the same coated fabric as the jackets, with welded seams and protected openings. The back pack with a rolltop closure, which rolls over on itself and then snaps on the sides, adjusts its volume according to the day's load and keeps the contents dry in the rain. Most models include a padded compartment for the laptop, with the screen size accepted specified on the label.

The brand’s travel bags, larger in size, follow the same logic for a weekend getaway or train trip, while the satchels keep the essentials within reach.

Care and other brands

A coated garment can be cleaned with a sponge and lukewarm soapy water, and should be hung to dry; machines and dryers can damage the coating. Other lifestyle brands, The North Face, Herschel, Eastpak, Veja, New Balance, adidas and many more, are brought together on the brands page.

New arrivals and great deals

The new arrivals showcase the latest releases, the promotions highlight discounted items, and items shipped within 24 hours are prepared and dispatched in a day. Best deals, clearance, and sales complete the offering.

Frequently asked questions

Do the Rains jackets fit large?

Their fit is rather loose and often unisex: many take their usual size, or even a size down for a more fitted look. Keep in mind some ease if the jacket is to be worn over several layers in winter.

Are the Rains jackets suitable for women?

Most Rains models are unisex, with a common sizing grid. For a slim silhouette, the smallest size or a size down from usual avoids the overly loose effect; the size guide for each model provides the measurements.

How to clean a Rains bag?

Wipe it with a damp sponge and a bit of mild soap on the marks, then let the bag dry open, in the air. The machine, hard brushes, and tumble dryers can damage the coating and may cause it to crack.

Is a Rains jacket breathable?

Less so than a membrane jacket: the coated fabric blocks water but lets little steam escape. It is suitable for daily commutes; during intense effort, you open it to avoid condensation inside.

How to store a Rains jacket without damaging the coating?

Hang it clean and dry on a hanger, rather than folding it tightly at the bottom of a drawer. Repeated creases and the heat from a radiator can mark or weaken the coating over time.
