The sneakers Puma bring together the archive models of the brand with the feline, born on the athletics tracks, basketball courts, racetracks, and in football stands. Suede, Clyde, Speedcat, Mostro, or Palermo: each has its own story, material, and fit, from soft suede to rubber soles.
Models born on courts, fields, and tracks, that have become classics of urban fashion.
The Suede owes a lot to the 1968 Mexico Olympics: when reaching the podium for the 200 meters, Tommie Smith held a pair of Suedes in his hand, an image that became famous. Its suede upper, rubber sole, and the patented Formstrip made by Puma ten years earlier, make it the brand's most recognizable sneaker. In 1973, the Clyde, a basketball version, was given to Walt Frazier, the point guard for the New York Knicks nicknamed Clyde: it was one of the very first shoes to bear a player's name. Both were later adopted by breakdancers and the New York hip-hop scene.
The Speedcat was born in 1999 from a driver's shoe: thin sole to feel the pedals, rounded heel, and low suede upper. The racing versions had a flame-retardant lining; the city version, launched the following year, replaced it with softer materials. It now comes in a Speedcat Ballet, with a strap over the instep, or with a wedge sole. The Mostro, launched in the same year as the Speedcat, gets its name from the Italian word for monster: it is inspired by a 1968 sprint spike and a 1980s surf shoe, hence its spiked sole and hook-and-loop fastening.
The Palermo dates back to the early 1980s and belonged to a series of models named after European cities. With its nylon and suede upper, rubber sole, and gold-lettered tag, it was worn by English football fans following their teams on the road, in the so-called terrace culture. In terms of sizing, these archive models don't fit all the same: the Speedcat, sleek and low, is known to be tight at the front, which especially bothers wider feet. Measuring your foot in centimeters and comparing it to the size guide helps avoid unpleasant surprises.
The other brands are gathered in the Asics, adidas, Saucony, Buffalo, Steve Madden, Skechers, Reebok, Hummel, Diadora, Fila, Bronx, on the sneakers page.
The new arrivals showcase the latest releases, the discounts highlight reduced-price items, and items shipped within 24 hours are prepared and sent out in 24 hours. The good deals, clearance, and sales complete the offering.
It’s a version of the Speedcat that adds a strap over the instep, like a ballerina shoe. It keeps the low silhouette, thin sole, and suede upper of the original model, for a more feminine and dressed-up look.
Its spike-inspired sole grips well but remains thin: it is more suited for city use than long walks. Its hook-and-loop strap allows you to adjust the foot's fit effortlessly.
The Suede is the most versatile choice: timeless silhouette, suede available in various colours and easy fit. Those who prefer a slimmer line will lean towards the Speedcat, while fans of retro football style will choose the Palermo.
Brush the suede dry with a crepe brush to remove dust and lift the nap, then treat stains with a special eraser. A waterproof spray applied before the first outing limits water rings. Avoid the washing machine, which hardens the leather.
Archive models like the Suede, Clyde, or Speedcat are now city shoes: their flat sole offers neither cushioning nor support needed for running or playing. For sports, Puma has specific technical ranges.
