Equipping young golfers at reduced prices.
The young golfer wears a single glove, on the hand placed at the top of the grip: the left for a right-handed player, the right for a left-handed player, which is why two versions are offered by Callaway. The glove should fit snugly on the palm without any creases or tension at the fingertips; if it’s too big, it twists during the swing and causes blisters. The models in the selection are all-weather gloves, made of synthetic material, which maintain their grip when the hand gets sweaty or when the grass is wet, and they withstand better than fine leather the hundreds of balls hit at the driving range. It’s advisable to have two for rainy days and to let them dry flat, away from the radiator, to prevent them from hardening.

The golf shoe provides support during the swing rotation. The spiked models, like the FootJoy or Puma PWRAdapt, which have raised studs that adapt to the slope and terrain, are suitable for the course, on wet grass and in slopes. The spikeless models, like the Under Armour Surge, with a dimpled sole, grip well on dry ground and can also be worn from the clubhouse to the range. FootJoy comes from a shoe factory opened in 1857 in Brockton, Massachusetts, and the FootJoy name appeared in 1923 on their golf shoes. For a child, we aim for their usual shoe size with a little room in front of the toes, measured with their golf socks.
On most courses, juniors' attire follows the same code as adults: collared polo, golf trousers or shorts, no jeans. The Under Armour Matchplay and Puma Pure polos, made of technical mesh, wick away sweat and stretch with the swing. The Under Armour Showdown trousers, cut from a stretchy fabric, allow freedom for the knees for posture. Against the rain, the waterproof jacket Abacus Ganton comes from a Swedish brand founded in 1991 near Lund, known for its breathable rainwear and stretchy fabrics. The cap Puma, Callaway, Ahead, or TaylorMade finally protects the eyes and face during long hours in the open.
The trolley bag JuCad Junior rests on a trolley that the child pushes or pulls, preventing them from carrying their clubs on their shoulder throughout the course. Its compartments separate the clubs to avoid clashing, and its pockets hold balls, tees, a spare glove, and snacks. JuCad, a German family business, has been building golf trolleys since 1988, the date of its first foldable trolley made of stainless steel, and now works with carbon and titanium. The brand's umbrella for kids, scaled for juniors, fits along the bag. A bag that’s lightweight is sufficient for a child starting with a half set; a complete set will later require a larger model.
Many golf schools welcome children from the age of five or six, with short and light clubs and fun workshops around putting and short game. Initial courses are played on shortened holes that suit their strength.
The French Golf Federation and PGA France created a colour-coded flag progression, from green to gold, which validates gameplay, rules, and etiquette step by step. The first levels do not require any score, the following ones set a maximum number of strokes.
The child's size guides the choice: junior sets are classified by height range, in centimetres. A club that is too long or too heavy disrupts posture and the swing; it's better to have a slightly short club that the child can control than a club that is sized for their future.
Brush off the grass and dirt after each round while clearing the spikes, then let the shoes air dry, stuffed with newspaper. A waterproofing spray applied from time to time prolongs the waterproofing of the shaft.
A round lasts several hours in the open: visored cap, sunscreen on the neck and ears, and plenty of water. A technical mesh polo that dries quickly also helps the child stay cool.
