The Shipped in 24h selection brings together shoes, bags, textiles and hiking gear available immediately. Items in this selection are prepared and shipped within 24 hours; the transport time is then added according to the chosen delivery method.

Handy for completing your gear before a trip to the mountains or a walking weekend.

Breaking in your shoes before heading out

A new pair of hiking shoes isn't ready for a long trek straight away. A few short outings, first in the city and then on an easy trail, can help identify a pressure point and soften the upper. Leather models require more breaking in than synthetic uppers, which are softer from the get-go. The walking socks you plan to wear while hiking should be used during these trials.

Lacing also helps: a locking knot at the arch allows you to tighten the bottom of the shoe for descents when the foot tends to slide forward, while leaving the top looser. All pairs can be found in the hiking shoes.

Upper, stiffness and membrane

The more technical the terrain, the stiffer the shoe should be. A flexible sole favours the foot's rolling motion on easy paths, while a rigid sole provides stability on rocky terrain and uneven trails. A high upper supports and protects the ankle, while a low upper makes walking on rolling terrain easier.

An impermeable and breathable membrane keeps the foot dry in the rain, but it can be warm in dry weather, and eventually lets moisture in when the outer fabric is saturated. For summer hiking on dry ground, a shoe without a membrane, which is more breathable, is often more comfortable.

The bag and the essentials

For a day out, a bag of 20 to 30 litres is enough to carry water, a picnic, a warm layer and a waterproof jacket. Beyond that, for several days, trekking bags are much larger in volume and shift the load onto the hips thanks to their hip belt. A headlamp, a first aid kit, and a survival blanket complete the essentials, even for a short trip. Bags are available in the luggage section, and the rest can be found in the equipment and accessories.

Other hiking entries

The textiles are divided between men's textiles, women's textiles and children's textiles, while trekking collects gear for multi-day trips. The new arrivals showcase the latest products, the special offers have discounted items, and the clearance features end-of-line stock. Everything is gathered on the hiking page.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will we receive the hiking gear from this selection?

Items from this selection are prepared and shipped within 24 hours. The transport time is added depending on the chosen delivery method, which is handy before an imminent hiking trip.

Should we break in our walking shoes before a long trek?

Yes, a few short outings, first in the city and then on an easy trail, help identify any rubbing and soften the upper. Leather models require more breaking in than synthetic uppers.

Waterproof membrane or breathable upper: what to choose?

A waterproof membrane keeps your foot dry in the rain and wet grass, but breathes less in high heat. A breathable upper, without a membrane, is better for summer hikes on dry terrain.

What to pack in your bag for a day hike?

Bring water, a snack, a waterproof jacket, a warm layer, a first aid kit, a map, and sun protection. A bag of twenty to thirty litres is sufficient for a day.

What socks should you wear for hiking?

Hiking socks made from merino wool or technical fibres, reinforced at the heel and toes, help minimise blisters. Try your shoes on with these socks to find the right size.
