Many sneakers lifestyle take inspiration from running shoes from the 1990s and 2000s. At Asics, the Gel-NYC combines the upper of an old Gel-Nimbus with details from other in-house models, on a newer sole, while the Gel-Quantum features a widely visible GEL cushioning on the side. The Gel-1130 revives the silver and technical look of the early 2000s. At Nike, the Air Monarch, with thick leather and a wide sole, has become the archetype of comfortable walking shoes, while the Initiator takes lines from a 2000s running shoe. These models are made for the city; for running, we prefer a current running shoe.

Buffalo, a German brand founded in 1979, launched its Classics platform sneakers in 1995, which were made famous by the Spice Girls; it remains the reference for thick soles, like those on the Cerbo or the CLD Chai. Steve Madden, a New York brand, offers sneakers with bold details, such as the Possession-E, for a higher silhouette without a heel. Tamaris, a German women's shoe brand, focuses on everyday comfort with cushioned insoles and soft materials. These three brands play with height and style while retaining the ease of a trainer, a good compromise for long days.
From one brand to another, the same size doesn't exactly correspond to the same foot length. Canvas shoes, like Victoria, often fit true to size and stretch little; padded skate models, like those from DC Shoes, allow a bit more volume. Running-derived sneakers from Asics have a fairly snug fit at the forefoot: a wide foot gains half a size. American brands also show US sizes, which differ in equivalence between men and women. The most reliable method remains to measure the length of the foot in centimetres, heel against a wall, and compare it to each brand's guide.
DC Shoes, established in 1994 in California within the skateboarding scene, introduced sneakers with thick tongues and reinforced soles, designed to withstand the wear and tear from the board. The Court Graffik remains its iconic model, with a padded collar that supports the ankle and a robust upper. Puma, founded in 1948 in Herzogenaurach, Germany, by Rudolf Dassler, draws on its sports heritage, encompassing running, football, and basketball, for everyday models like the Fade LT. Both brands share an urban style and solid construction suitable for both the city and active weekends.
Skechers, founded in 1992 in California, focuses on insoles made of memory foam and lightweight outsoles. The Uno Golden Air adds a visible air cushion at the back, appreciated for long days on your feet.
Sued leather shouldn’t get wet: brush it dry in one direction then the other to raise the nap, and erase marks with a dedicated eraser. A waterproof spray, regularly renewed, helps limit rain stains.
It's a thick sole throughout its length, from the forefoot to the heel, that provides several centimetres of height without arching the foot like a heel. Lightweight foam platforms remain comfortable for walking; higher ones should be avoided for driving.
For a child, choose a lightweight and flexible pair, with Velcro or elastic laces before they learn to tie their own, like Asics in GS sizes or Victoria kids. Leave a centimetre of space in front of the toes and check the size every three months.
Yes, white leather, as seen on many Nike Court Vision, can be worn in any season: it withstands rain better than canvas and can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Occasionally nourish it with a clear cream to avoid cracks at the creases.
