This page brings together the bikes at the end of the series, from carbon road machines to the first children's bike. Cervélo, Bianchi, Cube and SAVA for road, Fuji and Leader Fox for mountain biking, Bianchi for electric-assisted urban bikes, Wethepeople, SE Bikes and Inspyre for BMX, woom, Frog Bikes and Eightshot for kids: there's something for every kind of riding.
A bike from a previous model year, for a softer price.
A road bike is primarily distinguished by its frame. Aerodynamic models, like the Cervélo Soloist or the Cube Litening, with their streamlined tubes, are designed for speed on flat surfaces and in races. Cervélo, founded in Toronto in 1995 by engineers Phil White and Gérard Vroomen, has made aerodynamics its signature. Bianchi, established in Milan in 1885 in Edoardo Bianchi's workshop, is one of the oldest bike brands still in operation and is known for its sky blue; its carbon Sprint is suitable for the sporty cyclist. Gearing is equally important: the Ultegra Di2 from Shimano shifts gears electronically at the touch of a button.

A mountain bike is chosen based on the terrain. The Fuji SLM, a hardtail with twenty-nine-inch wheels and a single-chainring setup with twelve speeds, easily conquers obstacles in cross-country; the more versatile Leader Fox Sumava accompanies rides on paths. The BMX follows different rules: small wheels, a single gear, and a reinforced frame. Wethepeople, a brand from Cologne founded by riders, designs street and skatepark BMX like the Reason; SE Bikes, a Californian BMX pioneer, is known for its large wheels, as seen on the Blocks Flyer, while Inspyre is dedicated to BMX racing.
A kids' bike is chosen based on the size of its wheels, measured in inches, but more importantly on the child's inseam, which is a more reliable measure than age. Generally, children move from fourteen or sixteen inches around four to five years old to twenty inches by six to eight years, then to twenty-four and twenty-six inches. Weight is crucial: a bike that's too heavy quickly tires the child and makes starting difficult. woom, founded in Austria in 2013 by Christian Bezdeka and Marcus Ihlenfeld, and the British brand Frog Bikes create lightweight bikes with brake levers suited for small hands; the Explore by woom adds an off-road spirit for older kids.
For an adult, the frame size, noted in letters from XS to XL or in centimeters, is determined by the cyclist's height and especially their inseam, measured barefoot against a wall. Each manufacturer publishes its own chart because a size M frame doesn’t have the same dimensions from one brand to another. For urban use, the electric bike, like the Bianchi E-Omnia, combines assistance from a motor with a Shimano Deore transmission: the assistance, limited by European regulations to twenty-five kilometres per hour, mainly helps with starts and climbs. One should also check the battery life in relation to their daily journeys.
A size M frame is usually suitable for cyclists between approximately one metre seventy and one metre eighty. The inseam length and the manufacturer’s chart help narrow this down, as geometries vary from model to model.
The horizontal top tube completes the triangle of the frame, the most rigid shape for a reduced weight. The lowered frame of bikes termed for women made it easier to pedal while wearing a skirt; this design is now returning on urban bikes as it facilitates mounting for everyone.
A ceiling hook or wall mount hangs the bike by the wheel and frees up the floor. Avoid leaning the bike on its derailleur, and keep it sheltered from moisture to protect the chain from rust.
A rattling sound often comes from a dry chain or a poorly adjusted derailleur, while a squeak may be due to a brake pad or shoe. Cleaning and lubricating the chain resolves most cases; if the noise persists, a workshop adjustment is necessary.
The gravel bike adopts the curved handlebars of the road bike but accommodates wider, treaded tyres for riding on gravel paths. The road bike, lighter and on thin tyres, remains faster on tarmac.
