The regulations of the international federation set three sizes of handball. The size three, with a circumference of 58 to 60 centimetres and weighing 425 to 475 grams, is used by men and boys over sixteen years old. The size two, measuring 54 to 56 centimetres, is for women, girls over fourteen, and boys aged twelve to sixteen. The size one, which is 50 to 52 centimetres, is suitable for girls aged eight to fourteen and boys from eight to twelve. The youngest players start with a foam ball or a size zero ball, which is lighter and easier to hold with one hand.
The handball clearance sale is organised by type:
Most match balls are played with resin, which ensures a one-handed grip. In gyms where it is banned, a non-resin ball, with a more adhesive surface, takes over: the international regulations provide slightly smaller dimensions for it, at the same size. Balls in the colours of the EHF Champions League, the Euro or the French LNH and LFH championships feature the design of the official balls in supporter version, for training or collection. Select, founded in 1947 in Denmark by Eigil Nielsen, a former goalkeeper of the Danish national team, produces several of these balls.
Clearance is also available in other sports: football, running, lifestyle, bikes, motorbikes, basketball, equestrian, camping, on the clearance page.
A handball shoe should support the ankle and foot during lateral movements and landings. The adidas Stabil, a descendant of a model released in 1996, focuses on support and stability, while the Puma Eliminate and Accelerate Nitro, which are lighter, rely on Nitro foam for explosiveness. Their rubber sole grips the floor without leaving marks. In terms of clothing, the compression shorts Select with integrated padding absorb shocks to the hips and thighs during dives, and the goalkeeper pants Kempa, padded, protect the legs during saves on the floor.
Clubs welcome little ones to baby-hand from around three years old, then offer mini-hand, with a soft ball, a smaller pitch and simplified rules. Competitive categories follow gradually after that.
Modern handball originated in Denmark and Germany, at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century. Initially played outdoors with eleven players, it transitioned indoors to seven, becoming an Olympic version since 1972.
Power comes from the sequence of foot placements, trunk rotation, and the whip of the arm, not just the arm alone. Core strengthening and shoulder conditioning enhance shooting speed and limit injuries.
Check the pressure before each session with a moistened needle pump, remove the resin with a suitable cleaner, and store the ball away from a heat source. An over-inflated ball can deform and strain the wrists.
Released in 1979, the Spezial was designed for handball players, with a suede upper and a rubber sole that grips the court. It has since become a classic worn away from the courts.
